Lifelong Learning: Good for You. Good For Your Community.

“Lifelong learning is a critical part of my life since retiring. And wow, we are so fortunate to have Life at Elon available just a stone throws away from our beautiful campus. It's provided camaraderie, enlightened thinking, and stimulating conversations. In addition, it offers volunteer opportunities, such as becoming a board member, starting, or joining special interest groups, and utilizing one’s passions to implement new class offerings. – Twin Lakes Resident

Supporting Lifelong Learning

There are so many wonderful advantages to learning at any age.   A study in Adult Education Quarterly revealed “ There is ample evidence, both anecdotal and researched based that learning in older adulthood actually enhances personal and community wellbeing”. The study contends that” formal, nonformal, and informal learning activities of older adults promote an active and engaged lifestyle that helps create and preserve community.”

Never Stop Growing

Twin Lakes Community is located minutes from Elon University. By maintaining a close affiliation with Elon University, residents can participate in many enriching activities on campus while the university students, in turn, get to spend time interacting with the Twin Lakes Community. Our residents quickly discover that the ties between Twin Lakes, Elon and other nearby universities provide access to incredible opportunities and room for lifelong learning.

Living Beyond Limits

Many collegiate venues in the Twin Lakes area bring together multiple generations, such as the Guilford College Bryan Series, which features notable, world-renowned celebrity and academic speakers. Activities like this benefit older adults who often become more physically and mentally active. Students learn to be more age-conscious in their own daily lives and gain a fresh outlook and greater respect for life experiences.
